In the last couple years, I've taken up throwing on the wheel as a regular practice. I found an essential form that felt right for me in a ribbed vessel that expands upwards and outwards in rings. It reminds me of soundwaves (maybe gravity waves?) made physical. I’ve been joining these vessels into conjoined pots. The energy between multiples of these forms merged in complex geometries interests me most in these pieces. Energy that might stand in for the gravity between binary stars or intertwined lovers, or crossing ripples of stones dropped in a pond. These are the kinds of metaphors I think about when I’m making these functional planters.
