Clay Sculpture
El Pueblo Unido
My most recent project is a collection of tiered cylinders thrown on the wheel. They draw from ancient architectural forms like stupas and ziggurats, and mechanical parts like car transmissions. They can also read as figures. These pieces work most effectively as a group. I’m calling the project “El Pueblo Unido” - a town or people, united - to honor this time of protests and standing together.
Observer Station
You can go up on a mountain to get a clear signal, or to share your message far and wide. These sculptures might stand in for sound emitters or deep listeners, places to transmit or receive. The title "Observer Station" was borrowed from dub reggae artist Niney the Observer.
